In the spring, teens participating in our Teen Apprenticeship Program (TAP) spend time after school and on Saturdays with Studio Institute artists—gaining expertise in the fundamentals of art, learning how to instruct children in basic art lessons, and developing college readiness skills. Their commitment culminates in paid employment as art instructors at NYC summer camps.
In 2020, however, our intrepid teens completed their apprenticeship training online and worked hard to produce online art lessons for children. We were impressed to watch as they developed a style similar to popular social media tutorials—but with the Studio skills, knowledge, and standards we expect of our professional teaching artists.
