The Studio Institute is committed to providing young people interested in the arts with access to the tools they need to pursue college studies and future careers in the visual arts. Most recently, students from nine different New York City public high schools took part in the Studio Institute’s Winter Painting Intensive. Over 4 days of their February break, these students worked with artist Anne Emerson Hall to develop their painting skills by focusing on the fundamentals of using color in painting, and engaging in sophisticated exploration through acrylic exercises and discussions. Their explorations into color were made all the more rich through a generous donation of materials to Studio in a School by Liquitex. Techniques covered included under painting, tonal theory, and composition rendering. At the end of the program, students received painting materials to continue exploring and to create new work on their own.
