Our model of apprenticeship-based learning in the visual arts matches high school and college students with paid internships, which provide valuable career experience and exposure to the arts.

Bloomberg Arts Internship

Get set up for success with paid work experience, onsite training, and college prep assistance as you try out a career in the arts and participate in special events to explore the city’s arts and cultural scene.

Open to rising seniors at participating public high schools in New York City

Teen Apprenticeship Program

Interested in exploring careers in the arts and education? During the spring, you learn the fundamentals of art-making; upon completion, you may qualify for a paid internship teaching art workshops to children in New York City summer camps.

Bloomberg Arts Mentors

College students can make a positive impact on high school teens as a Bloomberg Arts Mentor. If you’re a college student with a strong interest in the arts and culture of New York City, this is an excellent opportunity to gain paid experience in arts and educational program management and guidance.

Open to college undergraduate and graduate students in New York City.

Bloomberg Arts Intern

Paid, nine-week summer internships at leading cultural institutions and performance spaces. As a college undergraduate, you'll gain hands-on experience in various departments, from curatorial to marketing & more, while building professional networks, joining a vibrant peer community, and receiving expert mentorship.

Open to BAI alumni in participating cities only. Offered in Baltimore, Boston, New York City, Philadelphia and Washington DC.

Studio Arts Mentors

College students gain paid experience teaching and mentoring high school students in the visual arts. Arts Mentors assist Studio artist instructors in implementing our Teen Apprenticeship Program and work with teens to produce, document, and deliver art instruction to young children in NYC summer camps.

Open to New York City college undergraduate Studio Art majors.

Watching the interns gain independence and thrive in their various work sites has made me proud to be a mentor in the Bloomberg Arts Internship program.

Scholarships

Studio Institute scholarships and awards are based on merit and financial need and are intended to make college affordable for New York City public high school students who are interested in pursuing arts careers.

 High School

Art History Research Fellowship

Developed by the Office of Arts and Special Projects, NYC Department of Education, the Art History Research Fellowship is a scholarship program for graduating high school seniors that encourages students to write an original art history research paper.

Open to teens attending New York City public high schools.

Studio Institute College Scholarship Program

Studio Institute’s College Scholarship Program scholarships help young people further their art studies with one- and multi-year undergraduate scholarships to students who are accepted in BFA programs for the academic year. Awards are based on merit and financial need.

Open to NYC public high school seniors who have participated in two or more of Studio Institute’s out-of-school programs

Studio Intensives

Thinking about going to art school? Studio Intensives extracurricular courses provide arts training to students in grades 10–12 attending New York City public high schools who are interested in applying to Bachelor of Fine Arts programs.

Out-of-School Programs

Get professional guidance in building your portfolio and support for the college application process. Studio Intensives include multiple-session courses in drawing, digital collage, painting, animation, and portfolio development. If you successfully complete multiple Studio programs, you are eligible to apply for Studio Institute college scholarships.

Offered in New York, NY at participating DOE high schools.
