The feature spotlights how our Studio Intensives art classes bring together diverse students from across NYC public high schools, providing creative growth opportunities through free Saturday programs. Studio Institute President Tom Cahill, reflecting on the students who come from a variety of NYC schools, explains, "Some of them are from schools that have strong art programs, and some of them are from schools that have basic programs, but they all gel together as a cohort that likes art."

The exhibition, running through April 18 at The Studio in a School Gallery, features striking works by 47 student artists. From charcoal figure drawings to vibrant self-portraits, these pieces showcase the remarkable talent nurtured through our free Saturday painting and portfolio development workshops. "Art is more than teaching technique — it builds confidence, encourages critical thinking, and allows students to find their unique voice," Studio In a School founder Agnes Gund tells Hyperallergic. The thoughtful, detailed profile also explores how Studio Institute breaks down financial barriers, offering no-cost portfolio programs and scholarship opportunities for participants.
