Meet the Bloomberg Arts Mentors

For students who spent time in virtual classrooms during recent years, connecting with others in person and having opportunities to receive support and guidance from a mentor is more important than ever.

A talented team of Bloomberg Arts Mentors—four postgraduate and four undergraduate college students are—are on hand this summer to support the BAI teens during their internships.  

 

Postgraduate Arts Mentors

Adah is an eclectic, Brooklyn-based artist based who hopes that this role will take them closer to achieving equity for BlPOV in the art world. They were a part of VESSEL, a queer art exhibition in St. Paul’s Cathedral and are excited about sharing more of their art. Adah is a graduate of Fordham University with a degree in New Media and Digital Design. 

Amy graduated from Barnard College, majoring in English with a film concentration and a minor in East Asian Studies. Prior work includes film production, photography, communications, and product design. Amy is passionate about telling socio-political stories about immigrants, women’s rights, and first-generation low-income communities. 

Judine attended New York University, where she attained a bachelor’s in psychology and minored in Studio Art and Child/Adolescent Mental Health Studies. She is looking forward to fusing her interests in psychology and art to eventually earn a master’s in art therapy. 

Julia recently graduated from NYU as a Studio Art major with a minor is Psychology. She enjoyed interacting with interns in the Teen Apprenticeship Program as a Studio Arts Mentor in 2022 and creating a space for both teaching and learning. She is passionate about art, mythology, and culture and how they intersect together.

Jamai is a sophomore at SUNY Purchase College, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in psychology with a double minor in Global Black Studies and Gender Studies. During the pandemic she discovered her passion for painting and plans to combine her love for psychology and visual arts in the future. She continues to pursue her passion for the arts as a BAI mentor. 

Jazmin is a junior at Pratt Institute, where is studies photography. She brings experience in fiber and sculptural studies, which she studied at the School of the Arts Institute of Chicago. Jazmin hopes to pursue AI photography as a career path. 

Jessilyn is a senior at Lehman College in the Bronx, where she is a history major with a minor in Women’s Studies. She brings experience working in The New-York Historical Society as a researcher for BIPOC history. She plans to pursue a career in Museum Studies and Education and aspires to help creative youth find community within the history and art sector. 

Janira, a junior at Columbia University studying computer science and visual arts, is a research assistant at Columbia's Center on Poverty and Social Policy. She is an alumna of the Pratt Young Scholar and the Guggenheim Museum’s GuggTeen programs. Her career goals include becoming a full-stack web developer and selling paintings as a fine artist. 

Did you notice a little alliteration going on here? Unintentional on our part, but we’ll take it as a good omen for a good summer with the assistance of our able A & J Support Team!

We look forward to sharing stories about the work the BAI teens are doing at their host sites this summer and hearing what it’s like to mentor these amazing students as they explore careers in the arts and discover some of the cultural treasures of our great city.
