Background

We believe that artists and arts communities bring a unique perspective and a special ability to nurture the creative spirit of young people.

Studio artist instructors work collaboratively with teachers to make meaningful curriculum connections that support students’ creative and intellectual growth. We also work with school leaders to offer long-term, multi-year partnerships that provide sustainable programming—allowing for deeper engagement and skill development in art throughout the academic year.

Principal Dr. Gary McPherson at Mary B. Martin School in Cleveland talks about the impact of our artist residency program. Watch Now.

Studio Institute programs in Cleveland are supported in part by the residents of Cuyahoga County through a public grant from Cuyahoga Arts & Culture.

I know that implementing the art residency program was successful because when the schools closed in the spring, I had multiple calls and emails from students wanting to pick up their artwork. I was impressed that in such a short time the students were taking such pride in their work.
