Collections Processing Intern
Collections Processing is a necessary component of the BMIs overall Full Inventory Project. In conjunction with an audit of department documentation, the Full Inventory is a multi-decade project that aims to fully document all assets within the museum’s custody, estimated at a half million individual objects.
The successful applicant will be trained in proper asset handling techniques, collections management, analog and digital information management, basic conservation, the use and function of collections databases, and other necessary skills.
They will learn how to properly clean, photograph, catalog, label, tag, house, and store collections assets according to institutional guidelines. They will also have the opportunity to attend department and institutional meetings, meet and discuss career paths with other staff members, and otherwise participate in museum-wide activities generally.
The Collections Processing Intern will be given a designated workspace, along with processing and conservation supplies.
Responsibilities
Process and catalog collections assets, including recent acquisitions, assets in storage, and assets on display in the galleries. Assets will be photographed, cataloged, conserved, and stored according to institutional guidelines.

Requirements, Skills, and Qualifications
The intern should be enrolled in or intend to enroll in a graduate or undergraduate program related to the management of cultural heritage: Museum Studies, Archives and Library Science, Public History, or similar.
The intern should possess good: communication, time management, organization, and problem-solving skills—with the ability to keep a clean workspace, work independently or as a member of a team; and exhibit goodwill and empathy towards staff, volunteers, and other interns.
HOURS PER WEEK: 28
Compensation
$20.00 per hour
INTERNS WILL WORK 28 HOURS PER WEEK AND ATTEND A MANDATORY OFFSITE PROGRAM DAY ONE DAY PER WEEK WITH THEIR COHORT.

Workdays: Onsite; four days per week, 9AM–5PM
PROGRAM DAY:
On Wednesdays, interns will attend an offsite program day with their cohort.
These hours are separate from the internship hours.
Eligibility
To be eligible for Arts Intern 2025, you must be pursuing a bachelor’s degree and:
Currently enrolled as a full-time rising junior (a current sophomore)
– or –Currently enrolled as a full-time junior – or –
Currently enrolled as a full-time senior graduating by fall 2025.
You must either reside or attend college in Baltimore.
