Artists for Humanity NYC: Curriculum Development Intern (New York)

OVERVIEW
The Curriculum Development Intern at Artists For Humanity NYC (AFH NYC) will play a pivotal role in designing and assessing the Paint Studio Foundation Curriculum, ensuring that all future teen artists receive a structured introduction to AFH’s mission, employment expectations, and fundamental artistic principles. The intern will conduct research, develop an 18-hour curriculum, observe its implementation, and refine it based on staff and youth feedback. This internship provides hands-on experience in curriculum development, youth mentorship, and arts education, contributing to the long-term sustainability of AFH NYC’s innovative Youth Arts Enterprise model. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Research & Curriculum Development – Conduct independent research and staff interviews to design an 18-hour Foundation Curriculum covering AFH’s mission, employment expectations, and fundamental painting techniques. 

  • Program Implementation & Observation – Assist staff in launching the curriculum, observe teaching sessions, and assess effectiveness based on best practices in arts education. 

  • Assessment & Evaluation – Design and administer separate surveys for teens and staff to measure the impact of the curriculum on youth engagement and skill development. 

  • Curriculum Refinement – Analyze survey data, reflect on observations, and propose revisions to enhance the curriculum for future cohorts, ensuring an engaging and effective learning experience. 

REQUIREMENTS, SKILLS, AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Artistic & Technical Proficiency – Strong foundation in color theory, composition, perspective, and painting techniques; photography or graphic design skills are a plus. 

  • Art Historical Knowledge – Familiarity with both historical and contemporary art movements to contextualize creative instruction. 

  • Mentorship & Communication Skills – Ability to provide constructive feedback, mentor youth, and foster an inclusive, inspiring learning environment. 

  • Project Management & Analytical Skills – Strong organizational abilities, attention to detail, and capacity to gather and apply feedback to refine educational programming. 

This internship is ideal for individuals passionate about arts education, youth development, and program design, offering a unique opportunity to shape the future training model for young artists at AFH NYC while developing professional experience in curriculum development and arts administration. 

COMPENSATION

  • $22.50 per hour

INTERNS WILL WORK 28 HOURS PER WEEK AND ATTEND A MANDATORY OFFSITE PROGRAM DAY ONE DAY PER WEEK WITH THEIR COHORT.

  • Internship Period: June 2 – August 1

  • Total Weeks: 9 weeks

  • Work Hours per Week: 28

  • Total Hours: 252

  • Workdays: 4 days per week onsite (Mondays – Thursdays)

  • Work Hours will be 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM

PROGRAM DAY:

  • On Fridays, interns will attend an offsite program day with their cohort.

  • These hours are separate from the internship hours.
