Historical Society of Pennsylvania: Learning & Engagement Intern (Philadelphia)
OVERVIEW
Join the Learning & Engagement team at the Historical Society of Pennsylvania (HSP)
and help bring history to life! This department runs summer programs for teachers,
students, and the public, curates exhibits and manages digital history projects.
As an intern, you’ll play a key role in updating and redesigning legacy digital history
pages for HSP’s new website. You’ll decide how to showcase the most compelling
content, test new formats, and provide feedback as the site is developed. You’ll also
create your own mini digital project using materials from the archives—giving you
hands-on experience in public history and digital storytelling.
Beyond the digital work, you’ll support programs that introduce educators, students, and
the public to the power of historical research.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop strategies for synthesizing larger amounts of digital content and for editing it for narrative strength and interest
Identify audience goals and develop a method for evaluation of a strategy to reach those goals
Develop archival research skills
Develop a digital research project
Create web design for legacy digital history pages
REQUIREMENTS, SKILLS, AND QUALIFICATIONS
Curious & creative thinkers who love storytelling and history.
Strong writing and communication skills.
Comfortable working with web content (no coding needed—just an eye for
design!).A collaborative attitude and an interest in engaging with different audiences.
COMPENSATION
$20 per hour
INTERNS WILL WORK 28 HOURS PER WEEK AND ATTEND A MANDATORY OFFSITE PROGRAM DAY ONE DAY PER WEEK WITH THEIR COHORT.
Internship Period: June 11 – August 13
Total Weeks: 9 weeks
Work Hours per Week: 28
Total Hours: 252
Workdays: 4 days per week onsite (Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays)
Work hours will be 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
PROGRAM DAY:
On Wednesdays, interns will attend an offsite program day with their cohort.
These hours are separate from the internship hours.
