Independence Seaport Museum: Education Intern (Philadelphia)
OVERVIEW
The Education Intern will work within the Education Department and collaboratively with other teams at the Independence Seaport Museum. The Intern will create digital classroom resources to be housed on ISM’s website. These resources are targeted towards teachers and students and will connect those audiences to learning experiences at the museum
RESPONSIBILITIES
Conduct contextual research on assigned topics
Gather and workshop sample materials to improve existing templates for digital materials
Select primary sources, objects, or images from the museum’s collections to complement written materials
Write contextual essays for the assigned topics
Create lesson plans to spark interest in or reflection on assigned topics
Actively participate in team meetings and check-ins
REQUIREMENTS, SKILLS, AND QUALIFICATIONS
Experience or interest in teaching either formally (classroom) or informally (museum setting)
Experience or interest in public history and conducting research on primary sources
Ability to communicate complex ideas to a variety of audiences in a written format
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with other Seaport Museum staff
Basic proficiency in Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Upon hiring, a PA Child Abuse History Clearance and State Criminal Record Check are required (Museum paid)
COMPENSATION
$20 per hour
INTERNS WILL WORK 28 HOURS PER WEEK AND ATTEND A MANDATORY OFFSITE PROGRAM DAY ONE DAY PER WEEK WITH THEIR COHORT.
Internship Period: June 11 – August 13
Total Weeks: 9 weeks
Work Hours per Week: 28
Total Hours: 252
Workdays: 4 days per week onsite (Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays)
Work hours will be 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
PROGRAM DAY:
On Wednesdays, interns will attend an offsite program day with their cohort.
These hours are separate from the internship hours.
