Moonstone Arts Center: Archival Research and Writing Interns (Philadelphia)

OVERVIEW

Moonstone Arts Center seeks two Bloomberg College Arts Interns to research, document, and expand the history of Philadelphia’s Celebration of Black Writing (CBW)—a long-running literary festival highlighting Black writers and artists. The intern will conduct archival research, oral history interviews, and content writing to produce an updated 50-page booklet on CBW’s legacy. They will also create social media posts throughout the summer and assist in planning a public launch event featuring past and emerging Black Philadelphia writers. This role offers hands-on experience in research, storytelling, social media, and event planning while contributing to the preservation of an important cultural institution.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct archival research on the Celebration of Black Writing (CBW)

  • Interview key figures, including Moonstone founder Larry Robin, community arts leaders, and CBW alumni

  • Write and edit content for an updated 50-page booklet on CBW’s history

  • Publish social media posts highlighting research findings, interviews, and event updates

  • Assist in planning a public launch event featuring past and emerging Philadelphia writers

  • If skilled in graphic design or A/V production, contribute to booklet design or video documentation

REQUIREMENTS, SKILLS, AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong written and oral communication skills will be critical

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Docs, Facebook, and Instagram social media platforms will be helpful

  • Experience with and/or interest in graphic design and audio/visual production software such as iMovie would be a plus, as well as experience using YouTube for digital outreach

COMPENSATION

  • $20 per hour

INTERNS WILL WORK 28 HOURS PER WEEK AND ATTEND A MANDATORY OFFSITE PROGRAM DAY ONE DAY PER WEEK WITH THEIR COHORT.

  • Internship Period: June 11 – August 13

  • Total Weeks: 9 weeks

  • Work Hours per Week: 28

  • Total Hours: 252

  • Workdays: 4 days per week onsite (Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays)

  • Work hours will be 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

PROGRAM DAY:

  • On Wednesdays, interns will attend an offsite program day with their cohort.

  • These hours are separate from the internship hours.
