Museum of African American History | Boston & Nantucket: Creative Storytelling Intern (Boston)
OVERVIEW
The Museum of African American History (MAAH) Boston and
Nantucket, in collaboration with Bee Blunt, a cutting-edge creative enterprise blending
storytelling with fashion, art, and history, are launching an innovative internship
program. This partnership aims to merge historical research and storytelling with
modern merchandise design, offering audiences engaging ways to connect with untold
stories of African American history through various artistic mediums.
We are seeking a passionate and creative intern to support the development of compelling storytelling merchandise rooted in the visual history and primary resources of African American communities in Boston and Nantucket. The intern will research historical narratives, collaborate on product design, and assist with marketing strategies to enhance community engagement through creative storytelling.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Conduct in-depth research using the Museum’s archives and other primary
resources to uncover compelling stories of African American history in Boston
and NantucketCollaborate with Bee Blunt’s creative team to translate historical narratives into
modern merchandise concepts, including fashion items, digital content, and
artistic displaysAssist in designing marketing materials and campaigns to promote storytelling
merchandiseDevelop written content, visuals, and presentation materials that effectively
communicate historical stories to diverse audiencesContribute to brainstorming sessions and provide innovative ideas for merging
storytelling, art, and commerceSupport project documentation and preparation of reports showcasing project
progress and impactParticipate in regular team meetings, providing updates and insights on research
findings and creative development
REQUIREMENTS, SKILLS, AND QUALIFICATIONS
Current undergraduate student in fields such as History, African American Studies, Art, Design, Marketing, Museum Studies, or related disciplines
Passion for storytelling, fashion, art, and community engagement
Strong research, writing, and communication skills
Familiarity with or interest in African American history, particularly in New
EnglandExperience with digital content creation, graphic design, or marketing is a plus
Ability to work collaboratively in a hybrid work environment
Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks effectively.
COMPENSATION
$22.50 per hour
INTERNS WILL WORK 28 HOURS PER WEEK AND ATTEND A MANDATORY OFFSITE PROGRAM DAY ONE DAY PER WEEK WITH THEIR COHORT.
Internship Period: June 9 – August 8
Total Weeks: 9 weeks
Work Hours per Week: 28
Total Hours: 252
Workdays: 4 days per week onsite (Mondays – Thursdays)
Work hours will be 9 AM - 5 PM
PROGRAM DAY:
On Fridays, interns will attend an offsite program day with their cohort.
These hours are separate from the internship hours.
