National Dance Institute: Development Intern (New York)

OVERVIEW
The Development Intern – Donor Research & Engagement Strategy Development project at National Dance Institute (NDI) is a structured nine-week initiative designed to expand and strengthen NDI’s donor pipeline in preparation for the organization’s 50th Anniversary year. The intern will engage in a comprehensive donor research and cultivation strategy project, working closely with the Development team to identify prospective donors, analyze giving patterns, digitize records, and contribute to solicitation planning. 

By the end of the internship, the intern will have developed a portfolio of donor research profiles, created a structured outreach strategy, and supported the preparation of fundraising materials, contributing to NDI’s long-term sustainability. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

- Donor Research & Prospecting – The intern will conduct in-depth research on individual, corporate, and foundation donors, analyzing giving history, philanthropic interests, and capacity to contribute. 

- Data Management & Digitization – The intern will review and digitize donor records, ensuring accurate and organized information in donor databases. 

- Donor Engagement Strategy – The intern will help develop donor cultivation strategies, contributing to the preparation of solicitation plans, donor profiles, and targeted outreach materials. 

- Fundraising Support & Team Collaboration – The intern will attend team meetings, contribute to strategic discussions, and assist in preparing presentations, reports, and proposal materials to support the Development team’s efforts. 

REQUIREMENTS, SKILLS, AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong Research & Analytical Skills – Ability to gather, synthesize, and analyze donor and fundraising data. Familiarity with research tools such as Google, LinkedIn, and philanthropic databases is a plus. 

  • Excellent Communication & Organization – Strong writing and verbal skills, with the ability to draft clear and professional reports and donor profiles. 

  • Technical Proficiency – Comfortable using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and design tools like Canva for donor outreach materials. 

  • Initiative & Attention to Detail – Ability to work independently while maintaining accuracy and precision in donor research and documentation. 

COMPENSATION

  • $22.50 per hour

INTERNS WILL WORK 28 HOURS PER WEEK AND ATTEND A MANDATORY OFFSITE PROGRAM DAY ONE DAY PER WEEK WITH THEIR COHORT.

  • Internship Period: June 2 – August 1

  • Total Weeks: 9 weeks

  • Work Hours per Week: 28

  • Total Hours: 252

  • Workdays: 4 days per week onsite (Mondays – Thursdays)

  • Work hours will be 9 AM - 5 PM  

PROGRAM DAY:

  • On Fridays, interns will attend an offsite program day with their cohort.

  • These hours are separate from the internship hours.
