The New York Historical: Digital Content Intern (New York)

OVERVIEW
The intern will play a vital role in enhancing the digital accessibility of the museum’s permanent collections by creating and updating digital guide pages on the Bloomberg Connects app. Reporting to the Director of Museum Administration, the intern will research and develop content that includes images, detailed descriptions, alt text, and multimedia elements, ensuring a more engaging and inclusive experience for the public. Through hands-on experience with The Museum System (TMS) and the Bloomberg Connects Content Management System (CMS), the intern will gain professional skills in museum administration, digital curation, and accessibility standards. By the end of the internship, the intern will have developed at least 10 digital guide pages that enhance public engagement with the museum’s collections. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Digital Content Development – Research, write, and format digital guide pages for the museum’s Bloomberg Connects app, ensuring accuracy and accessibility. 

  • Image and Alt Text Integration – Enter object images, craft descriptive alt text, and align content with accessibility best practices. 

  • Database Management – Record updates and track object information using The Museum System (TMS) to ensure content consistency. 

  • Multimedia Enhancement – Develop and incorporate audio, video, and interactive elements to enrich the digital experience for museum audiences. 

REQUIREMENTS, SKILLS, AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong Research & Writing Skills – Ability to synthesize art historical and collection-based information into engaging, accessible digital content. 

  • Attention to Detail & Organization – Experience managing digital assets and maintaining accuracy in databases such as TMS or other CMS platforms. 

  • Digital Literacy & Accessibility Awareness – Familiarity with alt text writing, multimedia formats, and inclusive content design. 

  • Interest in Museum Administration & Collections Management – Passion for museum operations, digital engagement, and enhancing public access to cultural heritage. 

This internship offers a unique opportunity to develop professional experience in museum technology, digital curation, and accessibility initiatives while making a lasting impact on how the museum’s collections are experienced by diverse audiences. 

COMPENSATION

  • $22.50 per hour

INTERNS WILL WORK 28 HOURS PER WEEK AND ATTEND A MANDATORY OFFSITE PROGRAM DAY ONE DAY PER WEEK WITH THEIR COHORT.

  • Internship Period: June 2 – August 1

  • Total Weeks: 9 weeks

  • Work Hours per Week: 28

  • Total Hours: 252

  • Workdays: 4 days per week onsite (Mondays – Thursdays)

  • Work Hours will be 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM

PROGRAM DAY:

  • On Fridays, interns will attend an offsite program day with their cohort.

  • These hours are separate from the internship hours.
