The Mütter Museum at The College of Physicians of Philadelphia: Exhibition Intern (Philadelphia)

OVERVIEW

The Exhibition Intern at the Mütter Museum of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia
will contribute to the development of the exhibition The Pursuit of Happiness: Imagining a Healthier Future. This exhibition is a dialogue between the medical professional
Fellows of the College and high school participants in the museum’s Youth Programs.
Working under the Senior Director of Interpretation & Engagement, the intern will gain
experience in the early phases of exhibition development, including building
partnerships, content research, and collaborating to clarify learning objectives and
themes.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conducting research on items in the museum and library collections

  • Collaborating on the development of themes, scope, and learning objectives

  • Cultivating partnerships between Fellows and Youth program participants

  • Conducting gallery-based audience research

  • Background research on historical and scientific literature related to the exhibition

  • Assisting in creating proposals for the exhibition framework and visual identity

REQUIREMENTS, SKILLS, AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Collaborative group work

  • Writing

  • Independent research

  • Interpersonal skills to work with wide age ranges (high school students to retired MDs)

  • Skills with graphic design software are useful but not required

COMPENSATION

  • $20 per hour

INTERNS WILL WORK 28 HOURS PER WEEK AND ATTEND A MANDATORY OFFSITE PROGRAM DAY ONE DAY PER WEEK WITH THEIR COHORT.

  • Internship Period: June 11 – August 13

  • Total Weeks: 9 weeks

  • Work Hours per Week: 28

  • Total Hours: 252

  • Workdays: 4 days per week onsite (Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays)

  • Work hours will be 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

PROGRAM DAY:

  • On Wednesdays, interns will attend an offsite program day with their cohort.

  • These hours are separate from the internship hours.
