Theatre for a New Audience: Development Intern (New York)

OVERVIEW
The Development Intern at Theatre for a New Audience (TFANA) will play a critical role in expanding the Theatre’s Young Patrons’ Association (YPA), a donor program designed for supporters aged 40 and under. Reporting to the Development Department, the intern will conduct donor research, track engagement data, and develop targeted marketing strategies to increase participation. They will gain hands-on experience using Spektrix, a top fundraising and ticketing CRM, and WealthEngine, the leading wealth intelligence software, to identify prospective donors. Additionally, the intern will collaborate with the Marketing Department to enhance social media outreach and engagement. This opportunity provides a comprehensive introduction to nonprofit fundraising, donor cultivation, and arts marketing, equipping the intern with essential skills in fundraising strategy, audience development, and donor relations. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Donor Research & Database Management – Update and maintain donor records in Spektrix, research prospective YPA donors using WealthEngine, and analyze donor engagement trends. 

  • Fundraising & Communications – Assist in drafting solicitation letters, grant proposals, acknowledgments, and end-of-fiscal-year campaign materials to support fundraising efforts. 

  • Social Media & Marketing Strategy – Collaborate with the New Deal Coordinator to create and implement social media strategies that engage young patrons and promote YPA initiatives. 

  • Development Department Support – Assist in gift entry, tracking, and general fundraising activities, contributing to the overall success of TFANA’s donor engagement strategy. 

    REQUIREMENTS, SKILLS, AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Research & Data Analysis Skills – Ability to conduct prospect research, analyze donor trends, and maintain accurate fundraising records using CRM databases. 

  • Marketing & Social Media Expertise – Familiarity with Instagram, Facebook, Threads, TikTok, YouTube, and experience in content creation, audience engagement, and campaign planning. 

  • Strong Communication & Writing Skills – Ability to draft professional donor communications, solicitation materials, and grant proposals with clarity and precision. 

  • Detail-Oriented & Collaborative Approach – Strong organizational skills, problem-solving abilities, and ability to manage multiple projects while working both independently and as part of a team. 

By the end of the internship, the intern will have directly contributed to donor cultivation efforts, strengthened audience engagement strategies, and developed key fundraising skills in a professional arts nonprofit setting. This position offers a valuable foundation in development, fundraising, and arts administration, preparing the intern for a future career in nonprofit management, fundraising, or arts marketing. 

COMPENSATION

  • $22.50 per hour

INTERNS WILL WORK 28 HOURS PER WEEK AND ATTEND A MANDATORY OFFSITE PROGRAM DAY ONE DAY PER WEEK WITH THEIR COHORT.

  • Internship Period: June 2 – August 4

  • Total Weeks: 9 weeks

  • Work Hours per Week: 28

  • Total Hours: 252

  • Workdays: 4 days per week onsite (Mondays – Thursdays) 

  • Work hours will be 9 AM - 5 PM 

PROGRAM DAY:

  • On Fridays, interns will attend an offsite program day with their cohort.

  • These hours are separate from the internship hours.
