Washington Performing Arts: Advancement Intern (Washington, D.C.)

OVERVIEW

The Washington Performing Arts Summer 2025 Advancement Internship offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience working with a leading customer relationship management (CRM) system, Tessitura, used in arts and cultural organizations. This internship is ideal for individuals interested in learning about data management, fundraising operations, donor cultivation and stewardship as well as nonprofit advancement.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Learn the fundamentals of the Tessitura customer relationship management
    (CRM) system

  • Audit, update, and maintain donor records to ensure accuracy and consistency

  • Identify and resolve duplicate or outdated records

  • Input and organize new donor and partner data into the system

  • Conduct prospect research to support donor cultivation and stewardship efforts

  • Generate reports and summaries related to fundraising campaigns, donor
    engagement, and giving trends

  • Identify and implement efficiencies in data entry and management

  • Work closely with the Manager of Advancement Operations & Analytics and
    other advancement staff

  • Participate in team meetings and training sessions related to nonprofit and
    arts administration

REQUIREMENTS, SKILLS, AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn Tessitura for managing donor and patron
    records

  • Basic understanding of Microsoft Suite (namely Excel or Google Sheets, Word or
    Google Docs, and Outlook or similar email system) for organizing and analyzing donor information

  • Comfort with learning new software and systems

  • Ability to maintain data privacy and security best practices when handling sensitive donor information

  • Experience working in a hybrid environment and using virtual meeting rooms like Teams and Zoom

  • Strong attention to detail, time management and organizational skills

  • Clear and professional verbal and written communication

  • A self-motivated but collaborative mindset

  • Completion of a background check required

COMPENSATION

  • $22.50 per hour

INTERNS WILL WORK 28 HOURS PER WEEK AND ATTEND A MANDATORY OFFSITE PROGRAM DAY ONE DAY PER WEEK WITH THEIR COHORT.

  • Internship Period: June 5 – August 6

  • Total Weeks: 9 weeks

  • Work Hours per Week: 28

  • Total Hours: 252

  • Workdays: 4 days per week onsite (Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays)

  • Work hours will be 9:00-5:00

PROGRAM DAY:

  • On Wednesdays, interns will attend an offsite program day with their cohort.

  • These hours are separate from the internship hours.
