WBUR: Audio Storytelling Arts & Culture Intern (Boston)
OVERVIEW - Position Pending Approval
The Bloomberg College Arts Internship at WBUR immerses emerging media professionals in the dynamic world of audio storytelling with a focus on arts and culture. The intern will gain hands-on experience in journalism and production, contributing directly to Here & Now and WBUR Podcasts. Through rigorous training in research, scriptwriting, guest booking, and digital content creation, the intern will develop the skills necessary to craft compelling narratives for public radio and podcast audiences. By the program’s conclusion, the intern will have independently produced a complete segment, showcasing their ability to translate research into engaging, high-quality storytelling. RESPONSIBILITIES
Conduct in-depth research and prepare briefs to support story development for Here & Now and WBUR Podcasts.
Assist in booking and coordinating guests, ensuring smooth production workflows.
Write scripts, develop segment structures, and contribute to digital and social media content.
Independently produce a complete segment, demonstrating proficiency in journalism, audio production, and storytelling.
REQUIREMENTS, SKILLS, AND QUALIFICATIONS
Strong research, writing, and editorial skills, with an ability to synthesize complex topics into compelling narratives.
Experience or coursework in journalism, media production, or a related field.
Proficiency in audio editing software (e.g., Pro Tools, Adobe Audition) and an understanding of digital media platforms.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while collaborating with producers, hosts, and editorial teams.
COMPENSATION
$22.50 per hour
INTERNS WILL WORK 28 HOURS PER WEEK AND ATTEND A MANDATORY OFFSITE PROGRAM DAY ONE DAY PER WEEK WITH THEIR COHORT.
Internship Period: June 9 – August 8
Total Weeks: 9 weeks
Work Hours per Week: 28
Total Hours: 252
Workdays: 4 days per week onsite (Mondays – Thursdays)
Work hours will be 8 AM - 4 PM for “Here & Now” days, 10 AM - 6 PM for podcast days
PROGRAM DAY:
On Fridays, interns will attend an offsite program day with their cohort.
These hours are separate from the internship hours.
