Weitzman National Museum of Jewish American History: Public Programs Intern (Philadelphia)
OVERVIEW
The Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History is offering a dynamic summer internship in public programming. This opportunity is ideal for college juniors and seniors eager to gain hands-on experience in museum programming, audience engagement, event planning, and research. Interns will contribute directly to the development and execution of innovative public programs while refining professional skills in documentation, marketing, and strategic outreach. The internship culminates in a capstone project that interns can showcase in their portfolios.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Review past programming data and analyze audience trends
Research programming trends and best practices from similar institutions
Identify and recommend potential speakers, performers, or partners for future museum programs
Develop audience engagement strategies based on demographic insights
Draft creative marketing materials, including social media content and event flyers
Assist with planning logistics for public programs, including drafting schedules and outreach lists
Coordinate materials and shadow team members during live program setups
Compile and analyze feedback surveys from past programs to create summary reports
Develop visual presentations (charts, infographics) to highlight audience insights
Independently complete a capstone project, such as drafting a program concept, compiling a research report, or developing a targeted outreach strategy
Present the final project to the Public Programs team for review and feedback
REQUIREMENTS, SKILLS, AND QUALIFICATIONS
Strong organizational and research skills
Excellent written and verbal communication
Ability to analyze data and translate insights into actionable recommendations
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
Experience with event planning or museum programming (preferred)
Familiarity with social media marketing and audience engagement tools (preferred)
Knowledge of accessibility standards in public programming (preferred)
Basic graphic design skills (preferred)
COMPENSATION
$20 per hour
INTERNS WILL WORK 28 HOURS PER WEEK AND ATTEND A MANDATORY OFFSITE PROGRAM DAY ONE DAY PER WEEK WITH THEIR COHORT.
Internship Period: June 11 – August 13
Total Weeks: 9 weeks
Work Hours per Week: 28
Total Hours: 252
Workdays: 4 days per week onsite (Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays)
Work hours will be 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
PROGRAM DAY:
On Wednesdays, interns will attend an offsite program day with their cohort.
These hours are separate from the internship hours.
