Public Programs Intern

The Public Programs Intern provides administrative and production support for a busy and dynamic Public Programs department. The intern joins our industry-leading team of cultural producers in bringing an exciting schedule of free and low-cost art, culture, and social justice programs to Brooklyn communities, especially our renowned First Saturdays and Thursday evening programs.

Through a hands-on approach to museum education pedagogy and cultural programming, the intern will develop the skills to propose content for future programming at the museum and complete a research project that will inform and benefit the department and their own portfolio.

The intern will leave with experience collaborating with artists and a skillset in event production, public speaking, and engaging diverse communities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the production of regularly scheduled summer programs

  • Complete administrative tasks, including:

    • Maintaining the department's contact registry

    • Composing publication texts (web calendar, handouts, etc.), contracts and service agreements, and program logistics documents.

Requirements, Skills, and Qualifications

  The Public Programs Intern should possess:

  • An interest and/or experience working in museums, nonprofit arts organizations, or a related field

  • A curiosity and willingness to learn in a community, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team

  • Demonstrated writing, communication, and problem-solving skills, strong attention to detail, and research capabilities.

  • An academic or extracurricular background in art history, curatorial practice, art-making, or the social sciences

  • An interest in social/political justice art and in collaborating with diverse audiences.

  • Experience working with people (e.g., customer service)

  • Flexibility in scheduling and the ability to work evenings (particularly Thursdays) and select weekends.

Compensation

  • $22.50 per hour

INTERNS WILL WORK 28 HOURS PER WEEK AND ATTEND A MANDATORY OFFSITE PROGRAM DAY ONE DAY PER WEEK WITH THEIR COHORT.

  • Internship Period: June 2 – August 4

  • Total Weeks: 9 weeks

  • Work Hours per Week: 28

  • Total Hours: 252

  • Workdays: Onsite; 10AM-6PM typical workday; evenings (particularly Thursdays) and weekends as required.

PROGRAM DAY:

  • On Fridays, interns will attend an offsite program day with their cohort.

  • These hours are separate from the internship hours.


 

Eligibility

To be eligible for Arts Intern 2025, you must be pursuing a bachelor’s degree and:

  • Currently enrolled as a full-time rising junior (a current sophomore)
    – or –

  • Currently enrolled as a full-time junior – or –

  • Currently enrolled as a full-time senior graduating by fall 2025.

You must either reside or attend college in New York City.

You must have a Student Aid Index up to $6,250.
