Background

Cleveland Clinic’s Art Collection offers a museum experience within a healthcare setting. Curated by an in-house team of experts, the contemporary art collection features more than 7,000 works of art across the enterprise.

Artwork is selected to promote healing and activate spaces, providing moments of curiosity, rest and contemplation for patients, visitors and caregivers. Patients encounter a wide variety of artworks throughout 225 Cleveland Clinic locations globally, including site-specific commissions, murals, paintings and public outdoor sculpture. Over 90% of the collection is currently on view. Artwork is sourced from galleries and artists around the world to reflect Cleveland Clinic’s global presence.


 

Details

INTERNS MUST BE AVAILABLE FOR THE DURATION OF THE PROGRAM.

The primary project for the Cleveland Clinic Art Collection summer intern will be the development of one or more self-guided tours of the art on Main Campus

Responsibilities

  • Become familiar with the collection and its installation as well as the layout of the campus

  • Research the art on view to create content for the tour that goes beyond the current label copy and creates an internal narrative for the tour

  • Create the physical documentation for the tour and work with Patient Experience to make it available to visitors to Cleveland Clinic

  • Learn about the viewer experience and develop collaborative skills to enhance viewer experience

Overview

Requirements, Skills, and Qualifications

  • Proficient research and writing skills

  • The ability and willingness to collaborate with people outside of Art Collection staff.

  • Be a creative self-starter who can take suggestions and run with them

  • An interest in education and/or design is not necessary, but will be useful in the production of the tour

HOURS PER WEEK: 28 (Monday–Thursday); Onsite

Please note that the intern will be subject to the Foundation’s COVID 19 policies and may be required to wear a mask while in the office, collection storage, and during site visits. 

Compensation

  • $20.00 per hour

INTERNS WILL WORK 28 HOURS PER WEEK AND ATTEND A MANDATORY OFFSITE PROGRAM DAY ONE DAY PER WEEK WITH THEIR COHORT.

  • Internship Period: June 10 – August 12

  • Total Weeks: 9 weeks

  • Work Hours per Week: 28 

  • Total Hours: 252

  • Workdays: 4 days per week onsite

PROGRAM DAY:

  • On Fridays, interns will attend an offsite program day with their cohort.

  • These hours are separate from the internship hours.


 

Eligibility

Before applying, verify that you...

  1. Will be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student. You must be a rising junior or senior as of June 2024.

  2. Reside or attend college/university within Cuyahoga County.

  3. We collect information about your Expected Family Contribution (EFC). (This number is on the Student Aid Report on your FAFSA form.)

Eligibility Application Process

  2. Your application will be reviewed by Arts Intern staff. If approved, Studio Institute will send you an email confirming your eligibility and advise you of next steps in the application process.”

  3. Once you have been verified as eligible for Arts Intern, you can apply to as many positions as you'd like. You do not have to submit the eligibility application more than once.
