Social Media Content Intern
The Haitian American Museum of Chicago (HAMOC) is a growing, ethnic, nonprofit museum that aims to create programs and exhibits that contribute to the multicultural tapestry that is Chicago. Its mission is to promote and preserve Haitian art, culture history and community in Chicago and beyond. HAMOC is looking for an intern to create content for HAMOC’s social media accounts to grow the museum’s online presence.
Responsibilities
The HAMOC Social Media Intern will:
Create visual content to be featured on HAMOC’s social media accounts.
Write engaging captions for social media posts.
Analyze social media interactions and responses.
Be up to date on current social media trends in relation to the arts, museums, and nonprofits.
Work collaboratively with HAMOC team
Create and organize a social media content calendar.
Develop and organize social media campaigns.
Engage with followers and other accounts to build meaningful connections for HAMOC.
Uphold HAMOC's mission and values when creating and posting content for social media.
Overview
Requirements, Skills, and Qualifications
The HAMOC Social Media Intern will be a college student with:
An interest in or studying the arts, humanities, social sciences or non-profit administration.
Background in social media, marketing, communications, or museum studies
Knowledge and/or interest in learning about Haitian, Black, and Afro-Caribbean art, history and culture
The Social Media Intern should possess (or be):
The ability to multitask.
Strong organizational, communication and critical thinking skills.
Detail oriented
Strong writing and editing skills.
Strong graphic design skills
Knowledge of social media posting strategies
Professional, courteous and energetic
Proficient in practices for Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and TikTok
Proficient in Canva or Adobe Creative Cloud
Compensation
$20.00 per hour
INTERNS WILL WORK 28 HOURS PER WEEK AND ATTEND A MANDATORY OFFSITE PROGRAM DAY ONE DAY PER WEEK WITH THEIR COHORT.
Internship Period: June 4 – August 7
Total Weeks: 9 weeks
Work Hours per Week: 28
Total Hours: 252
Workdays: onsite 4-hours Tuesdays, 6-hours Wednesdays through Saturdays
PROGRAM DAY:
On Fridays, interns will attend an offsite program day with their cohort.
These hours are separate from the internship hours.
4 hour shift onsite (Tues) 6 hour shifts onsite (Wed-Sat) 4 hours offsite to collect content/attend programs This includes weekends.
Eligibility
To be eligible for Arts Intern 2025, you must be pursuing a bachelor’s degree and:
Currently enrolled as a full-time rising junior (a current sophomore)
– or –Currently enrolled as a full-time junior – or –
Currently enrolled as a full-time senior graduating by fall 2025.
You must either reside or attend college in Chicago.
