Background | Details | Eligibility

Background

Inlet Dance Theatre, founded in 2001 by Founder and Executive/Artistic Director Bill Wade, is one of the region’s most exciting professional contemporary dance companies with roots in American Modern Dance.

Inlet embodies his longstanding belief that dance viewing, training, and performing experiences may serve as tools to bring about personal growth and development. During our 22-year history, we have transformed from a small dance company with local impact into a celebrated organization that impacts people on an international level.

INTERNS MUST BE AVAILABLE FOR THE DURATION OF THE PROGRAM.

Details

Overview
The Video Shorts Intern will complete three specific short video projects to document Inlet Dance Theatre programming. The Video Shorts Intern will be able to use these projects to demonstrate their skills for graduate school or future career interests. Shooting and editing video of performance groups is a niche skill that is valuable for work in both film and broadcasting.

Dance is a visual & movement discipline and nothing captures this creative experience more than film and video. Inlet not only seeks to choreograph and perform but also seeks to have audiences understand contemporary dance as a personal and collaborative group expression. These videos will help people understand this.

The company has never had an opportunity to have a videographer/filmmaker solely dedicated to creating strategic videos and it is much needed now, as Inlet is in a growth stage: improving its staff capacity and increasing community outreach programming.

Responsibilities

The intern will:

  • Assist in demonstrating the company motto of “Using Dance to Further People” through the creation of documentary videos that communicate Inlet’s mission to funders and audiences while assisting with important marketing, social media, and publicity goals:

  • Work side-by-side with Inlet’s Video Production Coordinator to shoot, edit, and caption short films/videos.

  • Document the Summer Dance Intensive from the perspective of students, teachers, choreographers, and community members.

  • Create a video for the Twilight Reception, providing an inside look of Inlet’s summer programming for donors, supporters, and participants attending the fund-raising event that takes place immediately before the culminating Cain Park performances.

  • Document the rehearsal and “behind the scene” at the Heinz Poll Summer Dance Festival, including the choreography, interviews, performances, and public responses to the company’s performances.
