Background

Roots of American Music (ROAM), founded in 1999 by Kevin Richards, provides arts programming that connects communities through traditional American music. Their mission is to share the joy of this rich musical heritage with youth, adults, and seniors from diverse backgrounds.

Roots of American Music conducts school-based residencies, workshops, and assemblies led by professional musicians. These programs foster a deeper understanding of American music and its cultural significance..

The foundation collaborates with community partners to bring music directly to those we serve, touching hearts through songwriting, performance skills, and engaging assemblies.

Overview

The Marketing and Audience Development Intern will assist with marketing, documentation, and content creation for Roots of American Music.

Responsibilities

  • Create audience survey forms in digital and print formats using Microsoft Word and Forms. 

  • Collect data from audiences at various performances via a digital online form or with paper copies of patron responses. 

  • Document performances through photographs, and other art forms for use in social media, website, and other marketing materials based on the branding and style guide of the organization. Create marketing materials and post to social media and websites. Including the Cuyahoga Arts Council Calendar of events. 

  • Create performance marketing content for monthly newsletter. 

  • Create marketing content and place on Cuyahoga Arts and Culture online calendar. 

  • Compile reports on audience survey data for staff. 

Requirements, Skills, and Qualifications

  • Ability to determine artistic layout of marketing materials. 

  • Ability to meet deadlines. 

  • Ability to work their cell phone camera or a digital camera; retrieve pictures from the camera for design use on a computer. 

  • Ability to seek information from staff about a performance and translate that into developing an audience survey. 

  • Desire to learn, especially software, and seek critique and proofing by staff of work. (software: Canva, Power Point, Word, Mail Chimp, Cuyahoga Arts and Culture online calendar) 

  • Ability to attend live music performances and interact with the audience to collect data. 

  • Ability to review and analyze data from the audience surveys and present it to staff. 

  • I am interested in performing arts and telling the story of the organization through visual art. 

  • Access to a working car, current driver’s license, car insurance, or access to public transportation to work at the organization’s office in Beachwood.  Bicycle transport is also available, as a bicycle can be safely stored at the organization’s office. 

  • Willingness to “ride-along” with staff to evening concerts. 

Compensation

  • $20.00 per hour

INTERNS WILL WORK 28 HOURS PER WEEK AND ATTEND A MANDATORY OFFSITE PROGRAM DAY ONE DAY PER WEEK WITH THEIR COHORT.

  • Internship Period: June 10 – August 12

  • Total Weeks: 9 weeks

  • Work Hours per Week: 28 

  • Total Hours: 252

  • Workdays: 4 days per week onsite, Mondays–Thursdays.

    We are flexible about the intern’s preferred schedule during this time and how these hours will be determined and fulfilled.

PROGRAM DAY:

  • On Fridays, interns will attend an offsite program day with their cohort.

  • These hours are separate from the internship hours.


 

Eligibility

Before applying, verify that you...

  1. Will be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student. You must be a rising junior or senior as of June 2024.

  2. Reside or attend college/university within Cuyahoga County.

  3. We collect information about your Expected Family Contribution (EFC). (This number is on the Student Aid Report on your FAFSA form.)

Eligibility Application Process

  2. Your application will be reviewed by Arts Intern staff. If approved, Studio Institute will send you an email confirming your eligibility and advise you of next steps in the application process.”

  3. Once you have been verified as eligible for Arts Intern, you can apply to as many positions as you'd like. You do not have to submit the eligibility application more than once.
