Archives Intern
The Valerie J. Maynard Foundation Intern will support various operational and educational functions within the organization, focusing on tasks related to cataloging, inventory management, research, archival work, and community outreach. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in museum studies, arts administration, archival preservation, or working in the arts and culture.
This is a project-based position. The assistant will work closely with visual artist/legacy specialists and gain valuable experience in the art world. Mentor-to-intern ratio is 1:2. Team size is four–six.

Responsibilities
The internship provides a comprehensive learning experience, with a focus on developing practical skills in art preservation, cataloging, research, and community engagement.
More specifically, the intern is responsible for the following:
Organize, maintain, and communicate accurate records of all artwork, including descriptions, dimensions, medium, and images.
Manage the artist's inventory.
Assist in moving, lifting, packaging, and shipping of artwork as needed.
Communicate with and take instruction from members of the Valerie J. Maynard Foundation’s Board of Directors, The Legacy Specialist, and Foundation Staff.
Attend all training sessions provided by the Foundation.
Requirements, Skills, and Qualifications
The ideal candidate should:
Have strong written and verbal communication skills
Be able to work independently
Have a passion for the arts, culture, history, or museum studies
Be intuitive, justice-loving, skills-sharing, and independent yet be able to follow instructions and work as part of a team
Operate intentionally with impeccable integrity and heart.
Additionally, the intern will demonstrate the followIng:
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Familiarity with or willingness to learn database management and cataloging systems
Prior experience with art handling, archival work, or event planning (a plus but not required)
Previous experience in art cataloging and inventorying is preferred; we will also provide training
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and Google Workspace/Suites products and services.
Compensation
$20.00 per hour
INTERNS WILL WORK 28 HOURS PER WEEK AND ATTEND A MANDATORY OFFSITE PROGRAM DAY ONE DAY PER WEEK WITH THEIR COHORT.

Total Weeks: 9 weeks

Workdays: Onsite; four days per week, 10 AM – 5PM
PROGRAM DAY:
On Wednesdays, interns will attend an offsite program day with their cohort.
These hours are separate from the internship hours.
Eligibility
To be eligible for Arts Intern 2025, you must be pursuing a bachelor’s degree and:
Currently enrolled as a full-time rising junior (a current sophomore)
– or –Currently enrolled as a full-time junior – or –
Currently enrolled as a full-time senior graduating by fall 2025.
You must either reside or attend college in Baltimore.
